What Is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a structured type of talk therapy. Mental health professionals use it to help with mental health issues and emotional problems. It's one of the most common and well-researched therapy methods.

CBT is based on several key ideas:

  • Psychological issues can stem from harmful thinking patterns.

  • Emotional problems can come from learned behaviours that are not helpful.

  • Issues often relate to negative core beliefs about yourself and the world.

  • People can learn better coping strategies to alleviate their symptoms and enhance their mental health.

In CBT, a mental health professional guides you to examine your thoughts and feelings. You'll learn how your thoughts impact your actions. Through this process, you can change negative thoughts and behaviors, adopting healthier habits instead.

What CBT Can Help With

CBT is commonly used to support people experiencing:

  • Anxiety and excessive worry

  • Depression and low mood

  • Panic attacks

  • Stress and burnout

  • Low self-esteem

  • Negative or self-critical thinking patterns

  • Difficulty managing emotions

Therapy may involve identifying unhelpful thought patterns, understanding the connection between your thoughts and emotions, and developing practical, realistic coping strategies you can carry with you long after therapy ends.

What Is Gottman Method Couples Therapy?

The Gottman Institute Method is a couples therapy that examines how partners think and feel about their relationship.

Developed with more than 35 years of research, the Gottman Institute Method addresses conflicts and their resolution, going deeper than daily interactions.

It also aims to rebuild friendship and love, fostering shared meaning. We will assist you in building trust, love, intimacy, and positive interactions while changing communication patterns.

In our first couple's session, we'll meet for 80 minutes. Later, we'll have individual consultations along with couples therapy. We can discuss your needs when we meet in person.

Our focus is on finding solutions rather than placing blame. I encourage you to be compassionate toward yourself and your partner as we work together.

What Gottman Method Can Help With

This approach is often helpful for couples experiencing:

Anxiety and excessive worry

  • Recurring or unresolved conflict

  • Communication breakdowns

  • Feeling disconnected or like “roommates”

  • Trust issues or difficulty repairing after conflict

  • Major life transitions (parenthood, career changes, relocation)

  • A desire to strengthen an already good relationship

How the Gottman Method Can Help You

Using tools grounded in decades of relationship research, the Gottman Method helps couples build friendship, manage conflict in healthier ways, and create shared meaning together.

You’ll learn to recognize the patterns that tend to escalate conflict, how to repair and reconnect after disagreements, and how to turn toward each other rather than away — even during hard moments. Whether you’re working through a specific issue or simply want to deepen your connection, this approach meets you where you are.
